The sustainable management of our land and soil is critical to maintaining our agricultural productivity, which is vital for the livelihood of our farms and rural communities, which contribute substantially to our economy.
Healthy soil is a fundamental component of a healthy landscape, providing nutrients for crops and pastures, storing and cycling water and carbon, and resisting erosion. This in turn provides us with food and fibre from our crops and livestock industries.
Both directly and indirectly, healthy land and soil support a buoyant primary production sector and many other natural resources. With these report cards we outline the condition of our natural resources and our management and community stewardship capacities.
